ENVIRONMENTAL WATCH HOUR

Partnering for greater heights, OGECYOD Cameroon and Ocean City Radio Limbe have teamed up to sponsor the rich radio program Environmental Watch Hour over the Ocean City Radio (88.5/106.6 MHz).

This program which made its first debut in July 2011 is today a household name and a must listened program for most families in Limbe. The programs main objective is to nurture youths to grow environmentally friendly for a sustainable development and provide environmental education to the people of Limbe and its environs. We want to reach every listener and decided to broadcast the program English, French and Pidgin. This gives everyone equal access to participation.

 Suddenly Saturdays have become a rush hour in the city of Limbe as all listeners scramble for their radio sets because if its 3pm, then you must be listening to Environmental Watch Hour. The program is a community program and that is why since its creation, it has hosted many members of the community of Limbe depending on the topic under discussion for the day such as staffs of the Limbe Wildlife Center, HYSACAM, N.G.O’S on Environment. The weekly program is hosted by our permanent staff Konda Delphine, who has got several years of experience with working at the radio. Thanks to her, the program gains broad variation and a lively atmosphere which keeps the Limbe people listening.

 The program is receiving positive response from its fans and listeners as calls and text messages are received on every edition as part of the contribution from the public. The program is also rebroadcasted every Tuesday as from 7-8 pm over the same frequency modulation for all those who missed the live edition.  During the 6o minutes that the program unfolds, the presenters and guest do their possible best to cite local realities in relation to the topic in the city of Limbe and its environs. This is to enable the listeners to have a picture of what environmental issues entail and also to give the opportunity to assess the impacts of their actions on the environments. Environmental Watch Hour is a stimulating program that does not stand as an island of its own.  It forms cooperation with other environmentalists who are invited to share their work, experiences and solutions with the population of Limbe. It is expected that by the start of next year, more changes promoted by the program will be experienced.
