The Road to Rio+20 is an upcoming United Nations Event that will take place in Rio de Janeiro in May 2012. This event has the capacity to become a transformative moment in our world’s transition to a more sustainable era. The whole idea of this event is to get the voice of youths in the upcoming conference at Rio de Janeiro. This is because youths are the leaders of tomorrow. There is need for us all to remind our selves of the things that our Governments have promised us in the last Earth Summit that took place in 1992. It is important to know that very few of the things that were promised to us by our various governments have actually been accomplished. The progress is there but it is not enough. Secondly, there is need to cut down the massive fossil fuel emission and other forms of pollutions that go on around the world today.
OGCEYOD Cameroon recently made partners with Peace Child International, the organization in charge of the project. As partners, it is our responsibility to promote the activities of the Road to Rio+20. OGCEYOD Cameroon is therefore playing an active role in the mobilization of youths in the South West Region of Cameroon to get their voices. The timeframe designed for the mobilization of youths by Peace Child International has elapsed but OGCEYOD Cameroon being one of the most active youths organizations in Limbe will organize and mobilize the youths of Limbe and some parts of the South West Region so that their voices too will be heard.
The whole concept was introduced to the Limbe Municipality through the ongoing radio program sponsored by OGCEYOD Cameroon/Ocean City Radio called Environmental Watch on Saturday October 29th 2011.During the 60 minutes Radio program, The Road to Rio+20 was discussed on air by the presenters and the guests.
The next plan of action is an upcoming consultative meeting where youths will make recommendations towards Rio+20. This consultative meeting will be chaired by the Divisional Delegate of Youth Affairs, Mr. Isaac Mbua. It is anticipated that the Road to Rio+20 will be remembered for triggering the awakening and mobilization of a global youth movement.
