May 2nd to 6th 2012 was another refreshing period for member organizations of IFM-SEI to sit, take stock and reflect on the future of the IFM-SEI. This meeting took place in Dakar, Senegal were two of our member organizations and host of the IC meeting seat; Action Enfance and Mouvement National Des Pionniers Du Senegal. After reviewing and evaluating the decisions and activities of previous year, membership upgrade of several organizations was review and decisions taken as follows; OGCEYOD, Esplac from Catalonia, Liepajas Jaunie Vanagi from Latvia were granted full membership, Agrupacion Integridad Absoluta Chile granted associate member and Mundo Nuevo of Peru was welcomed as new Observer. Our priorities for the new work plan 2013-16 was discussed which will be validated at the congress in 2013. My ideas came up from different work group sessions but groups were quick to notice that “child and youth participation” will be a better focus for future activities of the movement. The new proposal for changes to the constitution which will be deliberated upon at the Manchester, UK congress in 2013 were discussed in the last days of the meeting.
On the last day of the meeting was the time for the African Network Meeting to create a platform for better communication, information sharing, partnerships, collective actions, identifying common priorities and setting up a coordination structure. Participating in this network meeting was OGCEYOD, Action Enfance Du Senegal, Mouvement National Des Pionniers Du Senegal and Pionniers Du Mali. Gender Equality and difficulties in acquiring a visa for international meeting were the key issues discussed amongst others.
OGCEYOD did a short presentation on their work with children and youths on their Road to Rio+20. Mr. Elvis WEPNGONG who represented OGCEYOD shared the vision of the younger generation for Rio+20, impact and challenges of their Rio+20 activities and the key recommendations made by the children and youths of Cameroon.
