IN BETWEENMAGAZINE; NOW ENJOYED BY ALL IN LIMBE

The In Between Magazine Project carried out by cooperation between OGCEYOD and ASYOUSED (Assembly for Youths and a Sustainable Environment and Development) has been an ongoing success. In weekly meetings the two volunteers Jana Binder and Louisa Well meet with Cameroonian secondary school students and in group work they decide what to put inside each edition of the magazine and work on their articles. The quality of these meetings has improved broadly because the group of students and the volunteers got used to each other and the procedure of working in a group. This creates a more professional and productive atmosphere than there was before.  Because there has been a constant request for magazines in the schools throughout Limbe the printing has been doubled to 1000 magazines that are sold in town every month now. The latest edition came out in May and talked about National Day in Cameroon, Mother’s Day and contained an interview with a snail farmer. We also focused on the issue of youth unemployment and stressed on bilingualism in Cameroon.
To give our journalists more insight on the topics they are writing about we usually take them to a place like the Women’s Empowerment Center, the Delegation of Youth Affairs or the Limbe Wildlife Center. Actions like this don’t only provide information that can be shared with the readers of the magazine but also teach the young journalists how to do interviews, present themselves in front of authorities and what gives an article the tit bit of extra spice that will make it interesting to read. We look forward to the next edition coming out very soon that will be talking about prostitution, abortion and rainy season. This is going to be the last edition put together by Jana and Louisa because it is time for them to go home but they will have successors who can take care of the magazine.
