This year’s theme for the 22nd edition of the Day of The African Child event on June 16th focused on the rights of children living with disabilities and our duty to protect, to promote and to realise their potential. Messages of the day included; “lets love our disabled children and bring them out”, “lets say no to discrimination against our disabled children” and “Disability is not inability”.
Attended by chiefs, government delegates, mayors and service heads; this event saw around 200 children from all areas of Limbe come together to perform and share songs, traditional dances, and other cultural displays. The OGCEYOD Falcons (or the World Changing Heroes as they now like to be known as) presented a fantastic display on children’s rights. The group of fourteen 8 to 11 year olds from OGCEYOD performed moving monologs telling the real life stories of children in Cameroon whose rights are not being met. They successfully conveyed a clear message to the attendees who were gathered that we all need to work together in our communities and our organisations to ensure that every child has their children’s rights protected.
